Golden Horde and Duchess of the Fields (both 2016) continue Gillies' preoccupation with light, but here, after seeing works that pulse, is light as still life, compelling thoughts of sunset, storm, volcano and the sublime. In terms of scale and colour this feels like quite a departure.
